(Water Quality) A measure of the amount of material that is either dissolved or suspended in a water sample, obtained by allowing a known volume to evaporate and then weighing the remaining residue. Total solids equals the sum of the measurements of Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) and Total Suspended Solids (TSS).
