Jami'a is a book of 70 cubits long. It is a book which was dictated by the Prophet (SAW) to Imam Ali (AS) and, according to traditions preserved by Kulayni in his al-Kafi, has details of all the halal and the haram. It also has all the legal judgements that people need to know. al-Jafr, on the other hand, is a book which Imam 'Ali inherited from the Prophet. It contains knowledge of past and future events. According to al-Hasan al-Saffar (who wrote before Kulayni - his book is entitled Basa'ir al-Darajat) there are 2 types of Jafr - the white and red jafr The white (abyaz) jafr contains the previous scriptures e.g. the psalms, Torah and Injil and even the scrolls (suhuf) of Abraham. The red (ahmar) jafr is a leather bag which contains the weapons of the Prophet. Both types of jafr have been successively passed on to the 12th Imam (May Allah hasten his reappearance) According to traditions preserved in the aforementioned Basa'ir, the Mushaf of Fatima is a part of the white Jafr. This mushaf is said to be 3 times the size of the Qur'an but there is not even a word of the Qur'an in it. Part of the contents include the wasiyya of Fatima al-Zahra (AS). It is related that after the wafat of her father, the lady of the light Fatima (AS) informed Imam Ali (AS) that she could hear voices from within. He asked her to inform him what she heard, it was actually the angel talking to her. She dictated what she heard to Imam Ali, this formed the mushaf. It also pertains to future events. Dhu'l-Fiqar was the sword of the Prophet (SAW) which was passed on to Imam Ali and subsequently to the later Imams. All the scrolls and the weapons are in the hands of the 12 Imam.
