(1918–2007) a Swedish film maker who is regarded as one of the most important directors in the history of the cinema. His films, which include The Seventh Seal (1956) and Fanny and Alexander (1983), are often about very serious subjects involving characters who experience a lot of emotional suffering. He won Oscar ↑ award s for The Virgin Spring (1960) and Through a Glass Darkly (1962).

(1915–82) a Swedish actress who went to Hollywood in 1939 and became internationally famous by acting in films. She appeared with Humphrey Bogart in the film Casablanca .
