an extremely large ancient ↑ statue of the god Apollo on the Greek island of Rhodes. It is believed to have stood at the entrance to the ↑ harbour , with one leg on each side, and ships sailed under it to enter the harbour. It was one of the ↑ Seven Wonders of the World , and was destroyed by an ↑ earthquake in 224 ↑ BC .
