(1953-) a British politician who was given the position of Chancellor of the Exchequer by the Prime Minister Gordon Brown in June 2007. During Tony Blair’s time as Prime Minister, he held several important government jobs including Secretary of State for Trade and Industry (May 2006-June 2007), Secretary of State for Scotland (June 2003-May 2006), and Secretary of State for Transport (May 2002-May 2006). He was elected MP for Edinburgh South West in 2005.
