(1895–1952) the British king from 1936 until his death, and the father of Queen Elizabeth II. During World War II, he and his wife Elizabeth (who was called the ↑ Queen Mother ) were popular in the UK because they continued to live in London when it was being bombed, and they accepted the same food restrictions as ordinary people.
