OK CORRAL, THE

Meaning of OK CORRAL, THE in English

OK Cor ‧ ral, the /ˌəʊ keɪ kəˈrɑːl $ -ˈræl/ BrE AmE

a ↑ corral (=an area surrounded by fences where animals can be kept) in the town of Tombstone, Arizona. In 1881 it was the scene of a famous gunfight in which Wyatt Earp, his brothers, and Doc Holliday fought against a group of criminals called the Clanton gang. The story was made into a well-known film Gunfight at the OK Corral (1957), and this phrase is sometimes used humorously when talking about a fight involving several people:

It was more like the gunfight at the OK Corral than a football game.
