Pepys, Sam ‧ u ‧ el /piːps, ˈsæmjuəl/ BrE AmE
(1633–1703) an English writer famous for his ↑ diary (=a book in which you write what happens to you each day) , which describes his personal life and the important events of the time, such as the ↑ Great Fire of London , and gives a lot of information about what life was like at the time. At the end of his description of each day, he writes ‘And so to bed’.
