a US Christian religious organization for men that started in 1990 and has over 2 million members. It is known for holding very large, public meetings, often in sports grounds. The Promise Keepers have very strong Christian beliefs, and members are expected to behave in a very moral and honest way. But some people criticize their old-fashioned traditional beliefs, including the belief that men should control their wives' lives and be the leaders of their families.
