(1864–1949) a German ↑ composer known especially for his ↑ symphonic poems, his ↑ opera s , especially Der Rosenkavalier (1911), and his Four Last Songs (1948). One of his symphonic poems, Also sprach Zarathustra (1895) was used in the film 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968).
