the former name of a country in Eastern Europe, between Romania and Bosnia-Herzegovina, that included part of the former country of Yugoslavia, and was involved in the Bosnian War in the 1990s. It became a country in 1992, and its population is mainly Serbian. In 2003 it changed its name to Serbia and Montenegro. in 2006 Montenegro left the federation.
