MERCAPTOPURINE

[mer.cap.to.pu.rine] n [mercaptan + -o- + purine] (ca. 1952): an antimetabolite that interferes esp. with the metabolism of purine bases and the biosynthesis of nucleic acids and that is sometimes useful in the treatment of acute leukemia
