[Vincent's infection] n (ca. 1922): a progressive painful disease of the mouth that is marked esp. by dirty gray ulceration of the mucous membranes, spontaneous hemorrhaging of the gums, and a foul odor to the breath and that is associated with the presence of large numbers of a bacillus (Fusobacterium nucleatum syn. F. fusiforme) and a spirochete (Treponema vincentii syn. Borrelia vincentii) in the lesions--called also trench mouth
