BO-TREE

n. the Indian fig-tree, Ficus religiosa, regarded as sacred by Buddhists. Also called PIPAL or PEEPUL.

Etymology: repr. Sinh. bogaha tree of knowledge (Buddha's enlightenment having occurred beneath such a tree)
