NON-JOKE

A type of joke. A non-joke often vaguely sounds as if it ought to be a joke, but on closer inspection, it makes no sense (or slightly botched/mysterious sense). Oddly, non-jokes are sometimes very funny. Example: Non-joke, from a dream of E. Thrasamund: On seeing that the sign of a pub called the Queen's Arms had fallen to the ground, I said, Look, the Queen's arms have fallen off.
