CORIOLIS FORCE

Tendency of a free body or parcel to turn when it is in a rotating frame of reference. The Coriolis force caused by the Earth's rotation makes bodies moving long distances turn to the right in the Northern Hemisphere and the left in the Southern Hemisphere. Only occurs when the body is viewed in a rotating frame of reference.
