The Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) is the region where northeasterly and southeasterly trade winds converge. In regions where the ITCZ follow the path of the Sun, winds blow from the northeast or southeast according to the location of the ITCZ. These shifts in prevailing winds are known as monsoons. Monsoons often are associated with regions that experience wet and dry seasons.
