: a crystalline cyclic terpenoid alcohol C 10 H 17 OH known in three optically different forms distinguished as dextrorotatory borneol, levorotatory borneol, and racemic borneol, found in many essential oils (as pine oils), formed by reduction of camphor, and used chiefly in the form of esters (as the acetate) in perfumery — called also bornyl alcohol ; see isoborneol
