(Crotaphytus), any of four species belonging to the lizard family Iguanidae. The coloration of the collared lizards changes depending on temperature and light. The common collared lizard, Crotaphytus collaris, ranges in length up to 35 centimetres (14 inches), including a long slender tail, and it can run on its hind legs. Though often referred to as a mountain boomer, it has no voice. Collared lizards are nimble, active, aggressive reptiles with relatively massive heads.
