Meaning of TYRRHENIAN STAGE in English

major division of Pleistocene deposits and time in Mediterranean Europe (the Pleistocene Epoch began about 2,500,000 years ago and ended about 10,000 years ago). The Tyrrhenian Stage precedes the Flandrian Stage, which is partly Pleistocene and partly Holocene (younger than 10,000 years old) in age. The Tyrrhenian is characterized by a faunal assemblage in which warm-water forms predominate.
