a large British company that made cars, buses and lorries/trucks in the 1970s and 80s. It was formed in 1968 when several large companies including Austin , Morris , Rover and Jaguar combined, but continued to use the original names for the cars they produced. The company was losing money in the 1970s and became a nationalized industry. It continued to lose money and in the 1980s it was separated into smaller companies and sold to private owners.
