Meaning of REDGRAVE in English

I . Michael Redgrave

(1908–85)

an English actor. He is especially remembered for his stage roles in plays by Shakespeare and Chekhov, but he also acted in many films, including The Lady Vanishes (1938) and The Browning Version (1950). He was made a knight in 1959. He was married to the actor Rachel Kempson and their children Lynn, Corin and Vanessa Redgrave are also actors.

II . Steve Redgrave

(1962– )

an English sportsman who won gold medals in five Olympic Games (1984, 1988, 1992, 1996 and 2000) in the sport of rowing, as well as many other international competitions. He retired from rowing in 2000 and was made a knight in 2001.

III . Vanessa Redgrave

(1937– )

an English actor on stage, on television and in films. She began acting with her father, Michael Redgrave , in 1958, and became well known for her stage performances in Shakespeare plays. Her films include Blow-Up (1967), Julia (1977), Howards End (1991) and Mrs Dalloway (1997). She is also known for her involvement in left-wing politics, e.g. opposing nuclear weapons. Her daughters Natasha and Joely Richardson are also actors.
