a special display simply for quantitative data, in such a display each value is divided into two portions - a stem and a leaf
eg: scores of students arranged in increasing order:
7|3 5 6 8 9
8|1 1 2 3 4 5 6
9|2 3 4 6
In this example, 7,8,9 are stems, the numbers on the right side of | are leaves.
Note: by preparing such a display, no information is lost on individual observations(values), which is very different from the frequency distribution .
