Born into a family of rural notables, he attended Egypt's military academy and was assigned to the artillery corps as a lieutenant. Furious at the arrest of his brother, a leader of the Islamist opposition to S 0101; d 0101; t, he joined the radical Islamic Jihad Group (Jam 0101; 02BD; at al-Jih 0101; d al-Isl 0101; m 012B; ), and, along with a group of accomplices, assassinated S 0101; d 0101; t during a parade in 1981. He was executed following a public trial.
