Inlet, Gulf of Mexico , southern Texas, U.S. Forming a deepwater harbour for the port of Corpus Christi , it is 25 mi (40 km) long and 3–10 mi (5–16 km) wide and is sheltered on the east by Mustang Island.
Its shipping serves the petroleum, chemical, and agricultural industries. The area is popular for sportfishing, waterfowl hunting, and boating. The bay was entered on the feast of Corpus Christi in 1519 by Alonso de Pineda, who claimed the region for Spain.
