Breed of terrier developed in the border country of England and Scotland.
First noted as a distinct breed с 1700, it was later named after a character in Sir Walter Scott 's Guy Mannering (1815). It has a long, softly curved body, short legs, and a large, domed head crowned by a silky topknot. Its crisp-textured coat, a combination of hard and soft hairs, may be pepper-or mustard-coloured. It stands 8–11 in. (20–28 cm) high and weighs 18–24 lb (8–11 kg).
