The westernmost point of continental Europe, Cape Roca lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Lisbon . Known to the Romans as Promontorium Magnum, the cape is a narrow granite cliff, 472 ft (144 m) high, forming the western end of the Sintra Mountains.
