Lake, west-central South Island , New Zealand.
It covers an area of 75 sq mi (193 sq km) and is some 1,000 ft (300 m) deep. Fed by the Makarora and Matukituki rivers, the lake is the source of the Clutha River . Its outlet is harnessed for hydroelectric power.
