ASPENSTRM, (KARL) WERNER

born Nov. 13, 1918, Norrbrke, Swed. Swedish lyrical poet and essayist. Aspenstrm's images are characterized by intensity and a rare lyrical quality. In the cycle Snlegend (1949; Snow Legend), Litania (1952; Litany), and Hundarna (1954; The Dogs), the poet treats his metaphysical and social concerns in a symbolic form. Aspenstrm also wrote a number of poetic dramas. He re-created the world of his childhood in Bcken (1958; The Brook), a series of short stories. He wrote several collections of essays on current issues, including Sommar (1968; Summer) and Skl (1970; Arguments).
