in poetry, a stanza often used by Robert Burns and other Scottish poets. The stanza consists of six lines rhyming aaabab of which the fourth and sixth are regularly iambic dimeters and the others iambic tetrameters, as in Burns's Holy Willie's Prayer: I bless and praise thy matchless might, Whan thousands thou hast left in night, That I am here afore thy sight, For gifts an' grace A burnin' an' a shinin' light, To a' this place.
