born before 1609, , London?, Eng. died 1660, Stockholm, Swed. English miniaturist, elder brother of Samuel Cooper. By 1631 or 1632 Cooper was in Holland, where he painted a series of miniatures (now in Berlin) of the king and queen of Bohemia and their seven children. During 164446 he was at The Hague and in 1647 went to Stockholm, where he worked for Queen Christina and her successor, Charles X.
