The college offers a liberal arts curriculum and awards bachelor's degrees only. Campus facilities include an observatory and planetarium. Total enrollment is approximately 2,100. Gettysburg College, founded in 1832, is the oldest existing Lutheran college in the United States. It was originally known as Pennsylvania College of Gettysburg. During the Battle of Gettysburg of the American Civil War, the college's Pennsylvania Hall served as a hospital for both Union and Confederate wounded. Women were first admitted into the college in 1888.
