The area in which the village is situated is predominantly agricultural (subsistence farming of wheat, corn , and sorghum) and pastoral, the main cash income coming from livestock (sheep, cattle, goats) and the production of wool and mohair for export. As much as one-fifth of the area's population (mostly adult male) may be absent from the district at any given time, working in the mines and farms of South Africa.
