Portuguese Serra De Monchique, low mountain range forming the frontier between Beja and Faro districts, southern Portugal, near Cape Saint Vincent, the southwestern extremity of the Iberian Peninsula. A dissected igneous rock (syenite) massif, its highest point is La Foia (2,960 ft ). The range is famous for its wild and generally varied plant life, as well as for its spas with medicinal waters (Caldas de Monchique). Some timbering (pine, chestnut, oak) is carried on.
