NUEVO LAREDO

city and port of entry, northern Tamaulipas estado (state), northeastern Mexico. It lies along the Rio Grande (Ro Bravo del Norte), across from Laredo, Texas. The city is a cattle and natural-gas production centre, and the irrigation of its hinterland has brought some growth since the 1950s. A local bullring attracts tourists. A highway and a railroad linking San Antonio, Texas, with Mexico City, to the south, pass through Nuevo Laredo. Pop. (1990) 218,413.
