later earl of Shrewsbury, head of the English army against the French troops under Joan La Pucelle (Joan of Arc) in Shakespeare's Henry VI, Part 1. Talbot is an honourable man, a brave soldier, and a loving father who is destroyed by the rivalry between the dukes of York and Somerset. He dies, together with his son, because of The fraud of England, not the force of France.
