Beloved for his goodness and piety, he was elected pope in August but died a month later. Nothing is known of his pontificate. one of the two title characters in Shakespeare's romantic comedy The Two Gentlemen of Verona. Professing that Home-keeping youth have ever homely wits, the independent and high-spirited Valentine embarks on a journey in which he is subjected to betrayal, banishment, and blackmail. He personifies youth's resilience, remaining undaunted by these hardships and true to his treacherous friend.
