WOODWARD, ROBERT BURNS

born April 10, 1917, Boston, Mass., U.S. died July 8, 1979, Cambridge, Mass. R.B. Woodward, 1966. American chemist best known for his syntheses of complex organic substances, including quinine (1944), cholesterol and cortisone (1951), and vitamin B12 (1971). He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1965.
