one of Britain’s national daily newspapers, started in 1896 by Alfred Harmsworth , who later became Lord Northcliffe . It presents political views that are generally right-wing. It has a tabloid format (= size of page) and is considered to be part of the ‘popular press’, not one of the ‘quality papers’:
