FIRST AMENDMENT

the first amendment to the American Constitution and part of the Bill of Rights . It protects a person’s freedom of religion (in the Establishment Clause ) as well as freedom of speech, the freedom of the press and the right to gather together in peaceful groups. It is often used by journalists to protect their sources and by the Supreme Court to explain why it cannot restrict offensive communications.
