FLY-FISHING

Meaning of FLY-FISHING in English

n [ U ]

the sport of fishing in rivers or lakes using artificial flies of various types at the end of the line instead of live bait such as worms. The flies float on, or move just under, the surface of the water instead of sinking like worms, and are attractive to salmon and trout. Fly-fishing requires a lot of skill, and it is considered a higher-class sport than using live bait.
