a US charity that provides medical help and training in other countries. Doctors and nurses work without payment for the organization, which receives financial support from individuals, companies and governments. It was started by Dr Bill Walsh in 1958 with the SS Hope , a hospital ship that visited different countries from 1960 to 1974. Project HOPE has trained more than a million professional health workers in 70 countries.
