a very tall tree with reddish wood, found mainly near the US coasts of California and southern Oregon . The giant redwood (or giant sequoia ) is the tallest tree in the world. It can grow to more than 300 feet (92 metres) tall and live more than 2 000 years. Many redwoods grow in the Redwood National Park , a World Heritage Site in north-western California, and in the Sequoia National Park in southern central California.
