an expression used to refer to a type of upper-class or upper-middle-class young person, usually a woman. Sloane Rangers typically live in fashionable areas of London such as Chelsea , wear expensive clothes (often ones designed to be worn in the country), and have loud voices and old-fashioned ideas about politics and society. The phrase, invented by a journalist in the 1970s, is a mixture of Sloane Square and the Lone Ranger :
I could tell by the address on the invitation that the party would be full of Sloane Rangers
