a US actor known for her ability to play a wide range of different characters. She won Oscars for her parts in Kramer versus Kramer (1979) and Sophie’s Choice (1982). Her other films include The French Lieutenant’s Woman (1981), Out of Africa (1986), The Bridges of Madison County (1995) and The Hours (2002).
