TOTTENHAM THREE

Meaning of TOTTENHAM THREE in English

the name given to three young men who in 1987 were sent to prison for life for having taken part in the murder of a policeman during violent events on the Broadwater Farm housing estate in Tottenham, north London. After a campaign of protest, they were officially declared innocent of the crime in 1991, when it was shown that some of the police evidence against them had been false. Together with similar cases at the time, this caused some concern in Britain about dishonest behaviour by the police and about whether the legal system was always fair.
