WIGAN PIER


Meaning of WIGAN PIER in English

an area of factories and warehouses next to the Leeds - Liverpool canal in Wigan . It was a centre for industry in the 19th century when goods were transported by canal and has now become a popular tourist attraction. It was also made famous by George Orwell ‘s novel The Road to Wigan Pier about the difficult conditions of working class life in the 1930s.
