Meaning of MICROBIOLOGICAL ANAEROBIC DEGRADATION in English

The use of Microbes, either already present at a site or introduced for a specific treatment process, to degrade and render harmless hazardous wastes and toxic compounds in soil and water. Under such conditions, the microbes are used to break down organic compounds in contaminated soil and groundwater in an environment of little or no oxygen.
