A negative, or potentially negative alteration of the exploited natural system, resulting from human activities (e.g. fisheries and other impacting industries), the level and nature of which, on the basis of available knowledge, is considered as representing a low enough risk to the resource, system productivity, or biodiversity. The acceptability is kept under review and the decision can be revoked on the basis of new knowledge (Garcia, 1996)
