Browsing the WWW using a Web browser. Users search for information, chat lines, business transactions, and many other purposes. Surfing generally refers to the "pull" approach where the user pulls in the fish. Casting (webcasting, netcasting, Castanet, etc.) generally refers to the "push" approach where the user selects channels for preferred types of information and then lets the channel push updates automatically into the user's computer. In the past, web surfing was free of virus risks. With the advent of Windows Scripting Host utilities, this is no longer the case. Precautionary advice is given under ActiveX .
